Aneel Neupane

Director

Nepali director Aneel Neupane has made advertising campaigns and short films through Jazz Productions, the Kathmandu production house he founded in 2014. He also co-founded the animation and VFX studio Qi Studios, where he is creative director. Neupane left college to pursue photography, worked at a fashion magazine in Mumbai, and came back to Nepal to start the company. Before he directed, he worked as a photographer, cinematographer, editor, colorist and writer. His miniature-portrait series *My Small World*, in which he shrinks himself into tiny scenes, was published on international photo-feature sites. Jazz Productions has delivered more than 200 advertisement projects, from local brands to multinational campaigns such as PUBG Mobile. Nepali trade press has described the company as reshaping the country's television-commercial landscape, pointing to its practice of holding the line on quality and negotiating on budget. Neupane is also a co-founder and general secretary of the Animation and VFX Artists Association of Nepal, a body that works on standards, policy advocacy and copyright protection for animation and VFX artists. The company keeps a female-majority finance and styling team, has supported female animators, and follows formal consent and paperwork procedures on sensitive and government-related projects. Neupane has said that 'communication is everything' in the work. His short films include *Bob* and *Thirsty* (2020); his superhero story set in Kathmandu, *Guleli*, followed in 2024.
