Ram Babu Gurung came to feature filmmaking with a background in writing, and dialogue has remained a defining part of his work. Kabaddi, which he wrote and directed, turned a rural love triangle into the foundation of a long-running film series and made his collaboration with performers and writers part of its appeal. He continued as director and writer on Kabaddi Kabaddi, Kabaddi Kabaddi Kabaddi and Kabaddi 4: The Final Match, while also directing films such as Purano Dunga, Mr Jholay, Saili, Senti Virus, Fulbari and Degree Maila. His work has moved between comedy and drama without losing its attention to speech, community and the complications of belonging. As a producer, Gurung has also supported films by other directors, including Jaari and Pooja, Sir. That parallel role reflects a career shaped not only by his own directing credits but by a continuing investment in collaborative Nepali film production.
